The Archdiocese of Denver announced on May 15 that the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education has upheld the decision to close St. Louis School in Louisville, following an appeal after the October 2025 closure announcement.
The statement said this outcome follows a review process by the Dicastery, which confirmed that proper pastoral and administrative procedures were followed. The closure was attributed to ongoing enrollment decline, financial challenges at the parish, and concerns about long-term sustainability.
“We know the decision to close St. Louis was painful for many in the St. Louis community who have loved, supported, and sacrificed for the school over generations. The faith, devotion, and commitment of this community have left a lasting impact on countless students and families and will remain an important part of the parish’s history and life,” said representatives from the Archdiocese.
The Archdiocese also expressed continued support for those affected by this decision: “Please know of our continued prayers for all those affected, especially the students, families, faculty, staff, and parishioners who carry a deep love for St. Louis School and its mission.” According to its official website, the Archdiocese participates in charitable efforts across Northern Colorado; supports parishes, schools, ministries; provides programs in faith education; offers family services; youth support; social justice activities; and functions as a Catholic organization serving communities throughout Northern Colorado.
This development marks another chapter in local Catholic education as demographic shifts affect institutions across regions served by the Archdiocese. The future focus remains on supporting impacted families while maintaining other educational ministries.
