The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 31 that it will begin installing cable rail in the median of Interstate 25 just north of Pueblo starting April 6. The project, carried out with contractor Siete, Inc., will take place between Mile Point 108.5 and MP 114.1.
The cable rail is expected to improve safety for motorists by preventing vehicles from crossing the median into oncoming traffic lanes. In addition to installing the barrier, crews will perform grading work, clean culverts and inlets for drainage, install a weed barrier, and update existing guardrails.
Work hours are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists should expect median shoulder closures and some inside single lane closures within the work zone during these times. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, follow all posted signs, and maintain safe following distances while traveling through the area.
Construction schedules may change depending on weather conditions. For updated road conditions and information about this project, travelers can visit COtrip.org or contact the project team by phone or email as listed on the project webpage at codot.gov/projects/i25cablerailsafety.
