CDOT announces temporary closure at WCR 38/I-25 East Frontage intersection starting Sept. 16

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will temporarily close the intersection of Weld County Road 38 and the I-25 East Frontage Road, located east of Mead, beginning Tuesday, September 16 at 5 a.m. The closure is expected to last until mid-October as crews work on rebuilding and improving the intersection as part of the WCR 38 bridge reconstruction over I-25.

During this period, westbound traffic on WCR 38 will be directed east to Colorado Boulevard. From there, drivers can head south and either turn west onto Weld County Road 34 for local destinations or continue to Colorado Highway 66 to access I-25. Northbound traffic on the I-25 East Frontage Road will be diverted south to Weld County Road 34 for local access or entry onto I-25. Southbound vehicles will not have access to the I-25 East Frontage Road between WCR 38 and Weld County Road 40; those motorists are advised to use Colorado Highway 56, Colorado Boulevard, and WCR 34 for local travel.

This closure is part of the larger I-25 North Express Lanes Project from Mead to Berthoud. The project involves reconstructing and widening bridges along this section of I-25. CDOT states that full closures help improve safety for both travelers and construction crews while reducing how long traffic is affected.

“Full closures increase safety for the traveling public and crews while decreasing the duration of traffic impacts,” according to CDOT.

Construction schedules may change depending on weather conditions.

Motorists should expect a full closure at WCR 38 and follow posted detour routes during this time.
