The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will host a public open house on August 25 to present recommended alternatives for the I-25 Speer and 23rd Bridge and Interchange Project. The event is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at CDOT Headquarters, located at 2829 W. Howard Place in Denver. Attendees can review project display boards, speak with project team members, and access Spanish-translated materials.
The proposed improvements aim to address safety concerns, improve traffic flow, and enhance bike and pedestrian facilities in this congested area of Denver. CDOT is encouraging community input as part of its ongoing study phase for replacing the aging bridges at Speer Boulevard and 23rd Avenue over I-25.
“CDOT is seeking public and community input on these alternatives as part of the project study,” according to the department.
For those unable to attend in person, an online public comment period will run from August 22 through September 5 via the I-25 Speer and 23rd Bridge & Interchange Project website.
During the open house, CDOT will outline its combined Proposed Action for improvements: the 23rd Avenue Braid and the Speer Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange. This proposal will undergo evaluation under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, where it will be compared with a No Action alternative that involves making no changes.
“The 23rd Avenue Braid alternative balances the needs to improve safety for all users and maintains access to businesses, community resources and neighborhoods,” according to CDOT.
Special accommodations such as Spanish or ASL interpretation services or ADA support are available upon request by contacting the project team via email.
CDOT has been assessing additional enhancements beyond bridge replacement to benefit travelers and local communities near I-25. The braided ramp design proposed seeks to maintain access while improving overall safety.
