Motorists traveling in southwest Colorado should prepare for significant delays on Tuesday, November 25, as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close three major mountain passes to conduct winter maintenance operations. The closures will affect US 160 Wolf Creek Pass, US 550 Red Mountain Pass, and CO 145 Lizard Head Pass.

According to CDOT, these full closures are necessary to allow for safety-critical helicopter operations. Drivers can expect stops and lengthy delays that may last up to two hours during the scheduled work.

These efforts are part of routine preparations for winter conditions on key routes in the region. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly and consult CDOT’s Highway Closure Alert Map for updates on the status of each pass.
