Beginning Tuesday, September 9, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will carry out asphalt overlay work on US Highway 50 near Sargents, on the west side of Monarch Pass. The paving project is scheduled to last three days, from Tuesday through Thursday, with work occurring between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

During this period, drivers traveling between Gunnison and Monarch Pass should expect full stops, alternating traffic patterns, and delays of up to 15 minutes as crews pave about three miles of roadway from Mile Points 193 to 196.

A map provided by CDOT shows the area affected by the paving operations. The department advises motorists to plan for possible travel disruptions during these times.

“Motorists can expect up to 15-minute delays and alternating one-lane traffic,” according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The surface treatment is part of ongoing maintenance efforts aimed at improving road conditions along this stretch of highway.
