The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), working with United Companies, has completed a resurfacing project on Colorado Highway 112. The work covered about 13 miles from the intersection with US Highway 160 in Del Norte to the junction with US 285.
According to CDOT, the resurfacing involved a three-application treatment intended to improve the durability of the roadway. This section of CO 112 serves as an important connector for local commuters and freight traffic in south-central Colorado.
“CO 112 is a busy highway for south-central Colorado travelers,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Julie Constan. “Local commuters, as well as agriculture and freight drivers, use this as an efficient connector and rural bypass route when traveling through the San Luis Valley. The new resurfacing will make this valuable alternative route more reliable for Valley travelers.”
In addition to road improvements, CDOT installed new guardrails that are 31 inches high. These meet updated safety standards and are designed to help vehicles stay on the road more effectively if they veer off course.
