The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on March 31 that a resurfacing project will begin April 6 along US Highway 160 from Colorado Highway 12 to Walsenburg, with motorists advised to expect up to 15-minute delays.
The project covers about 11 miles of roadway west of Walsenburg, stretching from Mile Point 294.4 at the intersection with CO Highway 12 to MP 305.4 near Main Street in Walsenburg. The work will include milling old asphalt, paving new asphalt, repairing bridge decks, replacing road signs and striping.
“US 160 between CO 12 and Walsenburg is an important tourism corridor for southern Colorado, providing access to local communities and connecting travelers to Interstate 25,” said Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson. “This project is part of CDOT’s comprehensive 10-year plan and will provide a smoother, safer road surface for motorists.”
Traffic impacts are expected during daytime hours Monday through Friday, starting half an hour after sunrise until half an hour before sunset. There will be single lane closures with alternating traffic in the work zone, speed reductions, a width restriction of twelve feet and anticipated delays up to fifteen minutes.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works on integrated transportation solutions aimed at improving quality of life for residents. The department oversees transportation infrastructure across the state according to its official website, including building and maintaining interstates as well as U.S. and state highways while also administering grants for aviation and transit as stated by the agency. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for the department according to its official site.
The project is scheduled for completion in September.
