The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 23 that a resurfacing project will begin along US Highway 50 from the Pueblo-Fremont County Line to Purcell Boulevard in Pueblo West, starting April 6. The work, conducted with contract partner Martin Marietta, will involve both daytime and nighttime construction along the corridor.
The project aims to improve about 13 miles of US Highway 50, covering Mile Point 296.2 at the Fremont County Line through MP 309.3 near Purcell Boulevard in Pueblo West. Planned activities include milling old asphalt, laying new asphalt pavement, repairing bridges, and replacing guardrails.
“US 50 is a vital east-west corridor for commuters, freight and residents,” said Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson. “The new asphalt will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway and provide a smoother road surface for motorists.” Additional improvements include installation of higher guardrails meeting updated safety standards to help keep vehicles on the roadway more effectively.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions and oversees transportation infrastructure across Colorado. The department is responsible for building and maintaining interstates, U.S. highways, state highways, as well as administering grants for aviation and transit according to its official site.
