The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced a temporary change to the intersection at US 85 and County Road 8 in Fort Lupton due to recent crashes. CDOT is working with local officials to address safety concerns by limiting traffic at the intersection to right-in, right-out movements.

According to CDOT, work on the restriction will begin on the evening of August 24. The new traffic pattern is expected to be fully implemented by the morning of August 25. Crews will continue night work for several days after to ensure the closure of medians in several areas improves safety for drivers.

CDOT noted that this is not the first time changes have been made at this intersection. About a year ago, acceleration and deceleration lanes were added. While those improvements helped, vehicle turns across the highway have remained dangerous as traffic volumes have grown.

“Work to restrict the intersection will start the evening of Aug. 24 and will be fully in place the morning of Aug. 25. Night work will continue at the intersection for several days to make the closure of the median at several areas along the area safer for all drivers.”

“This isn’t the first fix CDOT has done at this intersection. About a year ago, accel and decel lanes were added, which helped but the turning of vehicles across the highway proved to be unsafe as traffic numbers increased.”
