October is Conservation Month for the Colorado Lottery, which is encouraging community members to participate in activities such as river cleanups and trail building throughout the month. The initiative aims to protect and maintain Colorado’s outdoor spaces.
According to the Colorado Lottery, proceeds from lottery ticket sales have contributed over $4.5 billion since 1983 to parks, trails, wildlife, open spaces, and recreational areas across the state. The organization states that it is unique in directing most of its funds back into outdoor conservation efforts.
The Lottery has highlighted several events taking place in October. On October 4, volunteers in Pueblo will join forces with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation, and the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center for the seventh annual cleanup along a section of the Arkansas River. Another event on October 18 will bring together Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado and Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks for a trail project at Boulder Valley Ranch aimed at improving trail safety and sustainability.
The Colorado Lottery credits players with making these contributions possible. “YOU make this possible! Every ticket you buy helps protect and enhance our greatest outdoor treasures.”
Community members are invited to take part in these activities during Conservation Month.
