The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has released a Request for Information to find more qualified financial institutions interested in joining the Colorado Agricultural Future Loan Program. This move comes as the program faces high demand, with over 100 applicants currently on a waitlist.

The program provides financing options for farmers, ranchers, food processors, and agricultural technology companies across Colorado. It is particularly important for new operators—those with less than ten years of experience—and individuals from underserved or underrepresented backgrounds in agriculture.

“The overwhelming demand, with over 100 qualified applicants currently on a waitlist, is a testament to the life-changing impact the Colorado Agricultural Future Loan Program has on those who may not meet traditional commercial bank requirements,” said Brian Coppom, Ag Future Loan Program manager. “We are eager to partner with additional qualified lenders to expand this vital resource and ensure every qualified operation in Colorado has access to the capital they need to grow.”

CDA is inviting banks, nondeposit Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), and business development corporations experienced in agricultural lending to apply as partners. Interested organizations must submit their responses through the state’s Vendor Self Service portal by March 2, 2026 at 10:00 AM MST.

Colorado’s agriculture sector covers about 30 million acres and includes more than 36,000 farms and ranches that contribute significantly to the state’s economy. Cattle and calves are among its top commodities. The CDA employs over 300 staff members statewide and supports various community efforts such as honey bee surveys to assist beekeepers and improve pollinator health. The department also works to promote environmental stewardship, ensure food safety, protect consumers, and connect residents with local products through its programs.

More information about the loan program can be found at ColoradoAgLoans.com or on the CDA’s official website.
