The Colorado women’s basketball team announced on April 14 the signing of transfer guard Mecailin Marshall, who will join the Buffaloes’ roster for the 2026-27 season. Marshall, a rising sophomore from Tulane and last season’s American Conference Freshman of the Year, was introduced by head coach JR Payne.

Marshall played in all 31 games during her freshman year at Tulane, averaging 10.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and earning four American Conference Freshman of the Week honors. She was also named to the conference’s All-Newcomer Team and recognized as its top freshman.

“Mecailin is a versatile player with tremendous upside,” head coach JR Payne said. “She brings toughness, skill, and a strong work ethic that aligns perfectly with our culture. Her ability to impact the game in multiple ways makes her incredibly valuable, and we believe her best basketball is still ahead of her. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the Buff family.”

Marshall scored double-digit points in sixteen games last season and posted two double-doubles against North Texas and South Florida. She recorded five games with at least twenty points, including a standout performance in the American Conference Tournament where she scored twenty-five points against Temple.

A graduate of Abernathy High School in Texas, Marshall excelled as a multi-sport athlete under her father Mikey Marshall’s coaching. Her high school career included being named co-MVP and making the THSGA Super Elite Team after scoring fifty-five points in one game.

As Colorado prepares for next season amid ongoing transfer activity, several players are set to return alongside new additions like Marshall: Zyanna Walker, Jade Crook, Kennedy Sanders, Maeve McErlane, Sophie Zadel, and Claire O’Connor have all been confirmed by the program.

The Buffaloes finished their most recent campaign with an overall record of twenty-two wins and twelve losses (11-7 Big 12), reaching their seventeenth NCAA Tournament appearance before falling to Illinois in the first round.
