The City of Colorado Springs is recognizing National Volunteer Week, April 19–25, celebrating residents who contribute their time and talents to improve the community in meaningful ways, according to an April 14 announcement. The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday honoring volunteers across Colorado Springs for their service.

National Volunteer Week draws attention to the important role that volunteers play in supporting city programs and services. In 2025, thousands of volunteers helped strengthen neighborhoods, public spaces, and community connections by contributing millions of dollars in value through their efforts.

Volunteers have made measurable impacts throughout the city. Over the past year, they distributed more than 103,000 pounds of food to over 2,100 families and supported nearly 79,000 youth participants through sports programs. More than 5,900 students were connected with nature via field trips and educational activities. Volunteers also cared for over 415 acres of parkland and maintained more than 32 miles of trail while removing upwards of 2,400 bags of trash from public areas.

In addition to these efforts, volunteers contributed more than 40,000 hours through the Community Advancing Public Safety Program (CAPS) and served nearly 2,800 hours as Airport Ambassadors welcoming visitors. Through the Stormwater Enterprise’s Adopt-A-Waterway Program, over seven tons of litter were removed by hundreds of volunteers. More than one hundred residents serve on city boards and committees advising on issues such as land use and parks.

Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services saw significant volunteer involvement with over 3,200 individuals contributing more than 135,000 hours in support during the past year. Programs like Adopt-A-Park and Adopt-A-Trail help maintain parklands and trails so that public spaces remain safe for all residents.

Volunteer-driven stewardship continues year-round through initiatives like Keep It Clean COS; during a recent cleanup event on March 14 this year volunteers collected over one hundred fifty bags of trash from city areas.

As part of National Volunteer Month activities residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming events including Downtown Community Cleanup Day on April 28th and Great American Cleanup on May 2nd hosted by Fountain Creek Watershed District alongside other partners.

Those interested in volunteering can find opportunities ranging from single-day events to ongoing roles across multiple departments at ColoradoSprings.gov/Volunteer.
