Colorado track and field athletes competed on April 18 at three meets in California, with standout performances highlighted by Avery Pearson’s achievement in the women’s 800 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The results from these meets are significant for the Colorado program, as several athletes set personal bests and moved up in school record books. Pearson ran a time of 2:00.91 in the elite section of the women’s 800 meters, placing fourth overall. This performance ranks her second all-time in Colorado history and fifth nationally this season.
Dean Casey opened competition on Thursday with a personal-best time of 28:17.16 in the men’s 10,000 meters invitational section, improving his No. 6 standing on Colorado’s all-time list. On Friday, Riley Burkey broke two minutes and ten seconds for the first time in her career during the women’s 800 meters with a personal-best of 2:09.42.
Distance events saw James Overberg post a personal-best of 13:32.53 in the men’s 5000 meters to move to tenth all-time at Colorado while placing fifth in his heat. Jessie Secor improved her own ninth-place mark in program history with a personal-best of 15:30.66 to finish fifteenth among women competitors. Freshman Holly Barker finished third in her heat by breaking sixteen minutes for the first time (15:55.42), and Keegan Smith also achieved a milestone by running under fourteen minutes (13:58.75) to place eighth.
In field events, Lucas Williams recorded a major personal best with a hammer throw mark of 61.65 meters (202-3), moving him to fifth all-time at Colorado.
Competition is scheduled to continue Sunday at noon Mountain Time.
