The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on March 23 that it will begin installing conflict warning systems at several intersections in Douglas and Jefferson counties. The work, carried out with contract partner Sturgeon Electric, will take place on Colorado Highway 74, Colorado Highway 83, and Colorado Highway 86.
These highway conflict warning systems use sensors, flashing lights, and signs to alert drivers about possible collisions at intersections known for poor visibility or higher crash rates. The project aims to reduce crashes in rural areas where such risks are more common.
Work is scheduled to start at the intersections of CO 83 with Gillian Avenue (between Mile Point 37 and MP 38) and Russellville Road (between MP 41 and MP 40), then proceed to CO 86 at Deerfield Road (MP 11), followed by CO 74 at Kerr Gulch (MP 1). The installation is expected to be completed by early summer of next year.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions.
