A Denver resident, Carl R., won $1,000 playing the $500,000 Crossword Scratch game after buying his ticket at King Soopers on South Federal Boulevard in Englewood, according to a March 8 announcement.

The win highlights the popularity of scratch games among local players. Carl said he enjoys playing Crossword Scratch games as well as Cash 5 and EZ Match several times a week.

He purchased the winning ticket on Super Bowl Sunday while stopping at the store for fried chicken. This marks his largest prize to date.

No additional background information about the Colorado Lottery or previous winners was provided in the announcement.

Carl’s experience serves as an example of how routine errands can sometimes lead to unexpected winnings.
