FOIA Request to Boulder Police Department regarding active employee roster on November 13, 2025.

On November 13, 2025, Centennial State News submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Boulder Police Department. The request seeks access to public records under the Colorado Open Records Act § 24-72-201 et seq., specifically requesting any roster, directory, staffing list, payroll record, or personnel summary that identifies all current employees of the police department.

The requested information includes each employee’s name, job title or rank, sex or gender (if included in existing rosters), date of hire or appointment, and age or year of birth (only if included in existing public-facing records). If multiple versions of such rosters exist—such as HR roster, payroll roster, sworn-officer roster, and civilian-staff roster—the most recent version of each is requested.

Centennial State News emphasized its role in gathering and reporting news to the public and requested a fee waiver for accessing these records. The organization argues that access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
