Northern Colorado men’s basketball announced on April 27 the addition of forward Kaidon Rayfield to its team for the upcoming season.

The signing of Rayfield is seen as a key move for the Bears as they prepare for next season. The coaching staff highlighted that his skills and versatility address an important need within the current roster.

Rayfield, a 6-foot-8 forward from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, joins Northern Colorado after playing his freshman year at UTSA. During the 2025–26 season, he appeared in 26 games with 13 starts and averaged 6.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He also recorded totals of 20 assists, 17 blocks, and 19 steals over the season.

Before college, Rayfield was rated as a three-star prospect by recruiting services such as Rivals and was ranked No. 27 at his position while playing at PHH Prep in Arizona. At Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma, he earned four-star status from ESPN and was considered the top player in the state during his time there.

“We’re thrilled to add Kaidon Rayfield to our roster, and his commitment fills a huge need on our squad. As the portal closed and the dust settled with our returning players and our initial recruits, it was apparent that our greatest need would be bigger, versatile forwards to connect our roster together. Kaidon is a perfect fit for what our team needed! An extremely talented and highly recruited player out of high school, Kaidon had a great freshman season last year at UTSA in a premier conference, The American. His natural position for us will be the power forward position, but his skill level will allow him to play both forward spots on the perimeter, and his athleticism and size will allow him to compete all over the floor. Already an extremely productive college player, Kaidon’s upside and potential is through the roof, and we’re excited to work with him as he continues to develop! UNC, the city of Greeley, and all Northern Colorado will enjoy cheering Kaidon on next year with the Bears” said Head Coach Steve Smiley.

Looking ahead to next season, Northern Colorado fans can follow updates about Rayfield’s progress along with other team news through official channels including uncbears.com or social media accounts.
