Louisville issued the following announcement on Dec. 30.
Firstly, I want to thank you for everything that you as a community have done this year to keep us safe by slowing the spread of COVID-19. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been important.
As we begin to the celebrate the end of this year and ring in the new one, I want to remind you to please follow all public health guidelines on New Year’s Eve by not gathering with anyone except your household.
You may have heard news reports of the first confirmed US case of the new UK strain of COVID-19 being identified here in Colorado. Governor Polis and Eric France, Chief Medical Officer at Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, explained in a press conference today that we need to continue to do what we know works to limit the spread of the virus:
- Only gather with family and friends virtually and don’t have personal gatherings
- Avoid social interactions with people outside your household
- Wear a mask
- Stay at least six feet away from others
Eric France explained that scientific research is underway, but it appears that the COVID-19 vaccine will be just as effective against the new UK strain so Colorado will continue with the vaccination plan in order to bring an end to this pandemic. Over 84,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered to date and we can continue to rank among the top 5 states in terms of vaccine distribution per capita.
