On Sept. 10, the Aurora, Colorado, Fire Department used Twitter to announce individuals should avoid the building at 14565 E. Alameda Ave. due to an explosion.
Three people were transported from the scene of the explosion with non-life-threatening injuries, according to NBC News, while hundreds of residents were sent to Red Cross shelters.
"Aurora Fire Rescue crews responded to reports of smoke conditions in multi-family residential structure," the Aurora FD said in a tweet. "On arrival, crews began searching for hazards when an explosion occurred. Searches and evacuation in progress, damage to the building is being assessed. Updates as available."
Emmanuel Rosado, a building resident, spoke to Colorado Public Radio about the incident.
"When we got out, we saw smoke coming from the front of the building, and a few minutes after that, we saw the explosion," Rosado said.
Rosado also said he felt shocked from what he witnessed.
Another building resident, Allyson Goodwin, spoke to CNN about the blast.
"I heard a really loud boom and I said, 'Don't look back, don't look back just keep walking,'" Goodwin said. "Like, 'You don't want to see what just happened.'”
