The most recent polling data for the Colorado governor's race shows that Republican Heidi Ganahl and Democrat Jared Polis are in a tighter race than expected.
Polis, the incumbent and leader in the polls, thinks he will win based on his record as governor. Ganahl is making a plea to independent voters, particularly mothers, asking them to vote for their kids' future, not for a political party.
Colorado voters will select their next governor on Nov. 8.
"Moms don’t vote RED or BLUE, they vote for their KIDS!" Gandahl tweeted recently, highlighting with charts the major surge in fentanyl deaths in the state.
The race for governor is hotly contested between Polis and new candidate Ganahl—an American businesswoman, entrepreneur, author and member of the University of Colorado Board of Regents. There are also candidates from the American Constitution and Libertarian parties.
September polling from the Trafalgar Group showed Polis leading Ganahl by 8.5%. This represents a significant change from early polls done back in June that had Polis leading by as much as 20%.
Despite the fact that Colorado has not elected a Republican governor since 2002, the race is turning out to be tighter than past elections.
Polis did not show up for the first debate due to scheduling conflicts, a Thursday Centennial State News report said.
