The Colorado Fraternal Order of the Police (FOP), a fraternal organization of sworn law enforcement officers, has endorsed Republican Heidi Ganahl in the Colorado governor’s race.
“Heidi will work hard for effective and responsible policies that benefit the communities we serve, and she won’t be afraid to stand up for the law enforcement officers tirelessly working to protect us all,” Colorado FOP President Stephen Schulz said in a press release on Gahanl’s website. “Heidi recognizes that it is past time to take the concerns of crime survivors and community members seriously to turn the tide on crime in Colorado.”
In a letter to the residents of Colorado, Schultz said that electing the right person to the position of governor is a “serious responsibility” and praised Ganahl for her “commitment to public service and public safety.”
He also noted in the letter that Ganahl’s stance on law enforcement and community safety is critical and much needed in the state.
“She will bring honest and principled leadership in support of residents throughout the state,” Schulz said. “Heidi is working hard already to listen to the input of public safety professionals, and we know that she will continue to seek out perspectives from critical stakeholders on the policies deliberated at the Capitol.”
The Colorado FOP, along with the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police and the County Sheriffs of Colorado, sent a letter to Democratic Gov. Jared Polis explaining that they could not support his public safety agenda.
"We believe that it is critical in the wake of past legislative changes and the anti‐law enforcement sentiment over the past few years that we hold elected officials accountable for their decisions affecting community safety," they said in the letter.
Ganahl’s website highlights her dedication to supporting law enforcement and expresses her commitment to holding criminals accountable. She has criticized Polis for signing legislation that lowers the criminal penalties for fentanyl possession and car thefts.
