The Jewish Life League, a pro-life Jewish organization, claims that LeRoy Carhart should not be allowed to continue performing abortion in light of his history of injuring and killing women in botched procedures. The late-term abortionist, who has faced multiple lawsuits, is in the process of attempting to open a new abortion clinic in Colorado.
According to LiveAction.org, despite his past, Carhart is attempting to establish a clinic in Colorado, and he currently has facilities in Maryland and Nebraska. However, the website noted that in the likelihood that Nebraska could ban abortion, he is trying to set up operations in Pueblo.
“LeRoy Carhart is an abortion butcher who has committed and botched multiple abortions, killing babies, and injuring women almost killing them,” the Jewish Life League said in a post on Twitter. “He lost in Gonzales v. Carhart. Why is this evil man still committing abortions?”
LiveAction.org noted that Carhart was the subject of a complaint filed by a patient who had to undergo hours of life-saving surgery after the doctor mishandled her abortion procedure. The website also noted that he is under investigation by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Complaints against Carhart date back to 1991, according to LiveAction.org, including taking phone calls while performing abortions and falling asleep during a procedure, according to the website. In 1993, a 19-year-old patient with Down syndrome died after he performed an abortion in the 28th week of pregnancy. The website noted that despite the family’s efforts to help the woman, the clinic did little to help her and she became septic and died.
The website also noted that staff reported in 2009 that tools were not sanitary and other staff members were using illegal drugs. LiveAction.org also contended that Carhart would alter the age of fetuses to perform illegal abortions.
A 29-year-old woman died of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) after receiving a late-term abortion from Carhart in 2013, according to LifeAction.org. The website noted that the woman complained of chest pains a day after the procedure and her family took her to a hospital, which then tried to contact Carhart, who would not give any information about the woman’s procedure.
The website also noted that Carhart continued to perform abortions and several women were injured and maimed from 2016 to 2020. The doctor also took to twitter to oppose a ban on the dilation and evacuation procedure.
"We strongly oppose the newest D&E ban, but our practice is fully complying with it,” Carhart said in a post on Twitter. “Abortion remains available in Nebraska up to 21 weeks and 6 days. This law does not change our ability to provide high quality, safe and legal abortions.”
According to British Pregnancy Advisory Service, during the procedure the woman’s cervix is stretched and the fetus is dissected and removed from the uterus. Women can experience fragments left behind or suffer hemorrhages. The website also noted that women also can suffer from psychological issues, bleeding, a punctured uterus or bladder issues.
