Aurora Public Schools (APS) shared a plea for input from the community on repurposing two elementary schools.
The request was announced on Twitter.
"Help Aurora Public Schools identify repurposing uses for Paris & Sable elementary schools!" the APS tweeted. "We started a new phase of community engagement and would love YOUR input. #BlueprintAPS Join us virtually or in person! You may also complete our online survey at http://aurorak12.org/blueprint#repurposing."
The repurposing input sessions for Sable and Paris Elementary Schools were scheduled on Nov. 15 and 16 respectively. These were conducted at Sable Elementary School and Paris Elementary School. Prior to the input sessions, a virtual meeting was held on Nov. 14 via Zoom.
Blueprint APS, according to the APS website, centers on addressing the enhancement of the district’s educational facilities by building, remodeling, and repurposing schools and buildings. APS believes that looking after the future needs of its facilities will include its schools "to direct more funding to choice options and strengthen educational programs for students." With its implementation of Blueprint APS, particularly on repurposing closed school buildings, the Aurora Public Schools is stepping into a new level of community engagement.
Aurora Public Schools converted the closed Century Elementary School to the Sierra School for students with disabilities, according to an October report in the Aurora Sentinel. Sierra moved from the Crossroads Transition Center, but the closed Century Elementary, at 2500 S Granby Way in Aurora, is larger and will accommodate more students, the Sentinel reported.
