The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) recently included the national organization, Moms for Liberty, and all its local chapters, in the SPLC’s recently-released “Year in Hate and Extremism 2022” report.

Moms for Liberty is a national organization with chapters in 44 states, including chapters in five Colorado counties. The group’s website says its mission is "fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government."

Darcy Schoening, chair of the El Paso County, Colo. chapter of Moms for Liberty, recently spoke with Centennial State News about the group’s inclusion in the SPLC report.

CSN: What are your thoughts about being included in the Southern Poverty Law Center report?

It’s an honor to be labeled something undesirable by such a laughable organization. If SLPC, a progressive political hack group, labeled Moms for Liberty as a civil rights organization, we’d have come concerns. SPLC is a pro-BIG government arm of the Democrat Party that runs cover for destructive government policies. SPLC harms kids in its race to grow the state. SPLC has energized our movement in meaningful ways. Parents are waking up to the politicization of education and exactly how hard the left is trying to silence parents by labeling them extremists or hate groups.

CSN: Would you call this a fair and unbiased assessment of your organization?

I would not call this designation fair, but I would say it’s expected. Fairness is forgotten in left-wing politics, but the Left’s increasing push towards communism is predictable.

In recent years, we have seen Merrick Garland weaponize the Department of Education by labeling parents as domestic terrorists, and Biden himself call parents who stand up for their kids “extremists.” The left is taking their plays from Mao Tse-Tung himself. If the state can turn kids against parents, we will have no Constitutional Republic. We will have communism. SPLC knows this, and they know we are fighting back, so they assigned a meaningless label to scare us and those who support us.

Considering SPLC is notorious for racist operations and sexual harassment, I’m not sure how much longer the group will last, especially given this latest debacle. We should probably assume SPLC aims to generate violent threats and attacks on innocent parents, much like their actions in the 2012 Family Research Council scandal.

No threat will scare us parents. SPLC should be labeled a hate group and an extremist group. That’s all it is at this point.

CSN: What impact, if any, will it have on your chapter?

This designation has helped our chapter immensely, as well as other chapters. When the Left tries too hard to silence parents, those parents become curious. They become offended. They seek answers, and they seek like-minded people in this battle for our kids. We have seen a huge increase in memberships, but we have also seen the largest surge in monetary donations I’ve ever experienced in my years in politics. I’m so grateful for the nonstop media, which caused a monetary windfall. Thank you, SPLC.

CSN: Any additional comments you have on this?

It is laughable that the SPLC thinks their hate group label means anything at all, other than social media fodder for its already communist-leaning base. That's all that's left of the once honored group...hate and social media fodder.

Some of the people I love most in this world are “LGBTQ”, but this battle is not about "queer rights", as the left would have you believe. This battle is for the heart and soul of our children, who have the right to learn math, science, and basic skills at taxpayer funded schools, free from politics. Children should be able to learn and grow without being told they’re racist, they need to use other pronouns, or they’re privileged and should feel guilty about the color of their skin. Forcing girls to change in front of boys after gym class isn’t equality; it’s insanity, indoctrination, and sexual harassment of children. Those tactics aren’t working anymore for the progressive left, and our momentum proves that. The number of parents joining this movement is a testament to the errant ways of the SPLC. I look forward to their eventual demise, whether organizational, criminal, or both. We parents always prevail. And we are.
