(DENVER) – Attorney General Phil Weiser today released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade:
“In the year since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned 50 years of the constitutional right to abortion care under Roe v. Wade, we’ve seen women’s rights come under attack across the country. The Dobbs decision has created chaos and anxiety for women seeking to make their own decisions about their bodies and their healthcare. This has left countless women, particularly those on the lower rungs of the economic ladder, with few or no choices to obtain the reproductive healthcare they need. This has resulted in dire and even deadly consequences, as doctors have confronted barriers to providing life-saving health care. And others have struggled or traveled far to find the abortion services they need, including from states where the law threatens doctors who provide their patients with truthful health care guidance.
“While reproductive rights and abortion care are protected in Colorado, the impacts of the Dobbs decision weigh heavily on our state, particularly on Colorado healthcare providers who are treating people from across the country who travel to our state to receive the care they need.
“Time and again, Coloradans have resoundingly affirmed that we value and protect reproductive freedom and safe and legal abortion care. In Colorado, we will continue to safeguard access to reproductive care by fighting attempts to take away the freedom to access reproductive health care, including access to safe and effective abortion medications like mifepristone. We will stand against these persistent and cruel attempts to control women’s bodies and erode personal freedoms.”
