The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Colorado has expressed strong opposition to House Bill 1090. The organization is urging lawmakers to reject the bill, which it refers to as the 'junk fees' bill. NFIB State Director Michael Smith has raised concerns that the proposal could create significant compliance challenges and potentially expose small business owners to frivolous litigation.

"HB 1090 is a solution in search of a problem, inserting government into how Colorado’s small businesses set and display pricing of products, goods, and services," said Smith. He further explained that the bill not only creates regulatory difficulties for small business owners but also makes them vulnerable to unnecessary legal actions.

Smith emphasized that "lawmakers need to keep in mind that Main Street Coloradans operate on infamously thin margins and do not have an army of attorneys or compliance officers at their disposal."

The NFIB is calling on lawmakers to oppose this legislation and instead collaborate with small businesses so they can focus on creating jobs, meeting customer needs, and investing in their communities.
