Sean S. has won $1 million in the Powerball drawing held on St. Patrick's Day. Sean discovered his win through a notification on his phone, revealing that his ticket matched five numbers (11-18-23-38-60), just missing the Powerball number.
Upon learning of his win, Sean first shared the news with his wife and father. His wife's initial reaction was disbelief: "You’re messing with me."
The numbers Sean played have personal significance. He began using them after purchasing a Quick Pick ticket shortly before his grandfather passed away in 2018. Since then, he has consistently used these numbers while playing various lottery games, including Powerball, Mega Millions, Colorado Lotto+, and Scratch games. The winning ticket was bought at Winners Corner located at 307 N. Main St., Pueblo.
Sean intends to invest most of his winnings to hasten retirement but is considering spending on home improvements and possibly a new car. "A Corvette would be my favorite," he mentioned, adding that due to having two children, "maybe just a new Tahoe" would be more practical.
Other recent winners in Colorado include a $2 million winner from Denver and a $100,000 winner from Longmont for the March 19 drawing, as well as a $1 million winner from Loveland and another $100,000 winner from Rangely for the March 12 drawing.
With no jackpot winner yet announced, the Powerball jackpot continues to rise. The next drawing on Saturday, March 22 offers an estimated jackpot of $444 million (estimated cash value: $207.2 million).
Since its inception in 1983, the Colorado Lottery has contributed billions towards preserving natural landscapes and developing community spaces across the state through proceeds from ticket sales.
