The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), working with Martin Marietta, has announced a winter shutdown for the resurfacing project on US Highway 24 between Florissant and Woodland Park. The shutdown begins November 20 and is intended to ensure safety for workers and drivers during the winter months. Construction activities will resume in summer 2026.
The resurfacing project began in late April and covers US 24 from Mile Point 269.4 in Florissant to MP 281, just west of Woodland Park. It also includes work on Colorado Highway 67 in Woodland Park from MP 76.9 at the US 24/CO 67 intersection to MP 77.5 near Red Feather Lane.
Work completed during the 2025 construction season included milling existing asphalt, resurfacing the roadway, installing new guardrails, and replacing curbs and gutters. According to CDOT, “The new asphalt will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway, provide a smoother road surface and add durability by increasing the resistance of ruts and road damage.” The installation of new guardrails—now built to a height of 31 inches—is designed to meet updated safety standards.
When crews return next summer, they will finish work on side streets and apply permanent striping. CDOT states that permanent striping must be done during warmer temperatures so that it adheres properly.
