Jorge Torres-Perez, a 29-year-old Venezuelan national, has been charged with assaulting a federal officer, threatening to assault or kill a federal officer, and destruction of government property. The charges stem from an incident in December 2025 in Colorado Springs after Torres-Perez was released from the El Paso County Jail and encountered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
According to the complaint, as ICE officers detained and began transporting Torres-Perez, he exhibited disruptive behavior and verbally threatened serious bodily harm against the agents. Despite efforts by the officers to calm him, Torres-Perez allegedly struck the vehicle’s doors and windows, damaged interior panels and wiring, continued making threats, and spat on the officers. The estimated damage to the government vehicle is $3,898.62.
“The charges contained in the complaint are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
Chief United States Magistrate Judge Scott T. Varholak presided over a hearing related to this case. Homeland Security Investigations is conducting the investigation. The prosecution is being handled by the Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Colorado.
