The Weld County 38 bridge over Interstate 25 is set to reopen on November 7, nearly a month ahead of the original schedule. The closure was initially expected to last through December.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) closed the WCR 38 bridge in June as part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project between Mead and Berthoud. During this period, crews demolished the old bridge, built in 1960, and constructed a new structure designed to improve safety and traffic capacity. The project also included an 8-foot-wide sidewalk for multimodal connections across I-25.
According to CDOT, “Ultimately, this closure helped invest money into permanent infrastructure in another area of the project and saved Colorado taxpayers money. Completing the reconstruction of this bridge is a major milestone, bringing the project one step closer to the finish line for a safer, more efficient I-25 North corridor.”
The six-mile section from Colorado Highway 66 in Mead to just south of CO 56 in Berthoud will connect with previous improvements made over approximately 20 miles between Berthoud and Fort Collins during the past six years. When completed in 2028, it will mark the first time there are more than two lanes in each direction on I-25 from Denver to Fort Collins.
