The Colorado Department of Agriculture is organizing an event focused on urban agriculture, with the aim of creating connections and sharing resources for urban growers and enthusiasts. The event, "Growing Urban Ag in Colorado," will allow participants to engage with the urban agriculture community and explore various opportunities at the expo hall. This gathering is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the CSU Spur campus.

Kate Greenberg, the Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture, emphasized the vital role of urban agriculture in fostering resilient and equitable food systems. She stated, "Urban agriculture plays a crucial role in building resilient and equitable food systems. By keeping people connected with agriculture and understanding where their food comes from, urban gardens and farms foster community connections, enrich our cities, and can provide real economic opportunity for innovative business people."

The event aims to increase access to fresh produce in underserved areas and provide educational opportunities. Attendees will learn about available resources and have the opportunity to comment on future urban agriculture programming at the Colorado Department of Agriculture. They will also have the chance to network with support organizations, agency partners, and each other.

Urban growers, community garden leaders, and food systems enthusiasts are encouraged to attend, although registration is required by April 24. Lunch will be provided at no cost, although a suggested donation of $15 is recommended to assist with expenses.

For further information about sponsoring or attending the event, inquiries can be directed to Emma Hardiman, Urban Agriculture Program Specialist.
