Boulder County Honors Becca Gan Levy And Milk And Honey Farm At The Boulder Jcc With Two Awards

Milk and Honey Farm is a 2+ acre educational sustainable farm located on the campus of the Boulder JCC. The farm brings the community together for experiential programs and activities grounded in Jewish heritage, tradition, and values. It provides a place for individuals to connect on the simplest level with soil, plants, animals, and each other through programs and volunteer opportunities. The Boulder JCC is proud to share that Farmer Becca Gan Levy and Milk and Honey Farm have been awarded both a Boulder County Environmental Stewardship Award and Boulder County Public Health’s 2022 Healthy Community Award for their dedicated efforts towards sustainability, preservation, and addressing food insecurity across Boulder County.

Each year, Boulder County honors individuals or groups with its Conservation Awards for outstanding contributions made to the preservation, and protection of land-based environmental resources. This year, Becca Gan Levy, Director of Milk and Honey Farm was the recipient of the Environmental Stewardship Award. “In addition to providing an experiential education resource to involve the community, families, and children in agriculture, the farm also donates thousands of fresh pounds of food to organizations to address food security needs. Becca manages an intensive agriculture system on a small parcel of land. She recruits and oversees a community volunteer workforce to overcome staffing challenges. She also uses low-water and no-till methods to align her farming practices with the dry Colorado ecosystem and to promote native pollinators.”.

Additionally, Milk and Honey Farm recently received the Boulder County Public Health’s 2022 Healthy Community Award for “providing thousands of pounds of locally grown fresh produce to childcare programs throughout Boulder County and for providing opportunities for children to experience a ‘hands-on’ gardening experience. The Milk and Honey Farm’s continued support of the children in our community by addressing food insecurity and providing gardening opportunities is helping to ensure that children across Boulder County have the opportunity for a healthy life and this work is to be commended.”

The Boulder JCC is continually proud of the work being done by Farmer Becca, Farm Coordinator Rachel Albert, and the team at Milk and Honey Farm. The passion and dedication to providing this incredible resource to the community and its needs are truly an asset to Boulder County and all who visit the farm.
