The Colorado State Fair is inviting local brewers and winemakers to participate in its annual Beer and Wine Competitions. The event, which has been revamped to focus on homebrewing and hobby winemaking, aims to highlight the diverse talents of Colorado's beverage creators.

"We want to celebrate the best brewers and winemakers at the Colorado State Fair this year and showcase the incredible talent within our state's brewing and winemaking communities," said Andrea Wiesenmeyer, General Manager of the Colorado State Fair. "This competition recognizes the passion and dedication of home brewers and winemakers, and contributes to the rich tradition of the Colorado State Fair."

The competitions provide a platform for both amateurs and professionals to present their creations while receiving feedback from expert judges. The event is popular among fairgoers, celebrating Colorado's vibrant community of brewers and hobby winemakers.

This year's competition includes several categories: a Homebrew Competition with a cap of 75 entrants (each allowed up to four entries), a Craft Beer Competition also capped at 75 entrants (with each brewery permitted up to eight entries), and a Hobby Wine Competition limited to 60 entrants. There will be no commercial wine category this year; instead, mead makers can enter the Beer competition, while commercial wineries are encouraged to join the Governor’s Cup competition.

Hobby Wine entries will be accepted from April 1 through April 25, with judging scheduled for May 3. Beer entries will be accepted from April 7 through May 2, with judging set for May 17 for homebrewers and May 18 for craft breweries. Details are available on the Colorado State Fair website.

The beer competitions are sanctioned by both the American Homebrewers Association and the Beer Judge Certification Program. Registrations can be completed online at ReggieBeer.com. Winemakers have access to 41 classes including whites, reds, rosés, ports, sherries, fruit wines, sparkling wines, among others.

The Colorado State Fair will take place from August 22 through September 1 under this year's theme "Growing the Tradition." Attendees can expect entertainment ranging from rides and food to concerts over eleven days. More information is available at ColoradoStateFair.com.
