The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has begun accepting applications for its 2025 NextGen Ag Leadership Grants. These grants offer up to $25,000 for each project, aimed at fostering educational, training, and leadership opportunities for upcoming leaders within Colorado's food and agriculture sector. Entities like organizations and educational institutions that cater to these individuals are eligible to apply.

These grants are part of a program designed to support the diverse sectors within Colorado's food and agriculture industry. The program's scope extends beyond just farmers and ranchers, encompassing those with interests in fields such as biosciences, nutrition, meat science, veterinary science, agronomy, soil health, engineering, food safety, and more.

Amanda Laban, Director of CDA's Markets Division, stated: “The challenges facing our agricultural community are complex and ever evolving. By working with Colorado organizations to identify future leaders and develop their agricultural and leadership skills, CDA’s NextGen Ag Leadership program creates the opportunity to inspire our next generation to meet these challenges with skill and confidence, creating a more resilient agricultural system for our future.”

To be eligible, project proposals must aim to bolster careers in food and agriculture, preparing participants to become leaders within the industry. These projects should address one of the following priorities: developing individual leadership or entrepreneurial skills, enhancing organizational leadership and capacity building, or creating educational or training opportunities. While institutions can submit multiple project proposals, individuals cannot apply for funding.

CDA has scheduled an informational webinar for April 9, 2025, at 1 pm MDT to address inquiries about the grant program, the application process, and its review. Interested parties can register for the webinar in advance.

The deadline for digital submissions is 5 pm MDT on April 25, 2025. Applications can be completed at ag.colorado.gov/nextgen.

The review of applications will be conducted by a cross-divisional team at CDA, with awards slated for announcement during the week of June 2, 2025.

Additional program details, including the application link, are available at ag.colorado.gov/nextgen. Direct further inquiries to cda_nextgen@state.co.us. A Spanish version of the press release is available upon request by emailing cda_communications@state.co.us.
