The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has opened applications for the Climate Smart Market Expansion Project, which aims to enhance market development and boost production capabilities for climate smart commodities and other agricultural products. Proposals are being accepted as Documented Quotes through the Colorado Vendor Self Service (VSS) website.
Climate smart practices are gaining traction among Colorado producers due to their benefits, such as improved soil health, optimized water usage, diverse ecosystems, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
“More Colorado producers than ever before are using climate smart practices to grow crops adapted to our changing climate. Yet the current market and infrastructure for these crops still need to be developed," said Amanda Laban, Director of CDA’s Markets Division. “This funding will enable businesses to pilot solutions for expanding the climate smart commodity market along the supply chain."
A total of up to $90,000 is available for projects that support market opportunities for Colorado producers using climate smart practices. The awards focus on increasing demand at any stage of the supply chain and developing market premiums. Food, beverage, clothing manufacturers or brands sourcing from Colorado’s climate smart agricultural products are encouraged to apply. Supply chain entities like processors and distributors can also participate.
The maximum award per proposal is $30,000. Proposals should outline how they will achieve one or more outcomes: increased purchasing volume of climate smart commodities, documented premiums over the award duration with preference for long-term sustainability proposals, increased capacity in processing or distribution, new buyer contracts, or effective marketing strategies.
Interested parties can visit the Colorado VSS website and search for Documented Quote number *2025*0364* for detailed documents and submission instructions. CDA will hold an optional virtual information session on March 4, 2025. Submissions are due by March 17 at noon MT. For inquiries related to this solicitation, Kathy Chang can be contacted by the deadline.
